Europe Day

Europe is built through unity, step by step, in solid acts of peace.

Europe Day, celebrated every year on 9 May, honours peace and unity across the continent. The date marks the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration, when French foreign minister Robert Schuman presented a new model of political cooperation in Europe. His vision was to make war between European nations “not merely unthinkable, but materially impossible”. This bold initiative is widely regarded as being the starting point of what ultimately became the European Union.

Europa-Fest in Frankfurt

On 10 May 2025 the ECB will participate in the Europa-Fest, together with two EU agencies based in Frankfurt – the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority and the Anti-Money Laundering Authority. The event will be held at Frankfurt’s historic Römerberg market square, where visitors can meet and chat with experts, explore EU-related topics and enjoy interactive games.
